How to Actually Get Results From Your Google Ads Campaigns

Google Ads is intimidating. You are handing Google your credit card to bill automatically, paying for every single click, and trying to make sense of a dashboard that feels built for someone else. All of that is true, and there are still a handful of solid ways to get the machine working for you.

The biggest mistake I see is weak ad copy. Most people never get past it, so let me show you the difference with an example.

Weak versus strong

A weak ad reads like filler: a vague headline, a generic promise, and a bare URL. A strong ad answers a specific need, entices with a clear call to action, and points to a landing page built to finish the job. Same product, completely different result.

A checklist for a text ad that works

  • Answer a need. The more specific, the better.
  • Entice with a call to action. Tell them exactly what to do next.
  • Let the landing page fill the gaps and funnel the visitor into a form or a contact method.

Build a formula, then scale it

Once a campaign is active and targeted, treat it like a formula you can copy across your other services. Say you spend two hundred dollars, generate five leads, and convert one. Now you have the math. You can scale the campaign up gradually to push more volume while keeping your monthly spend in check. For a local small business that wants a steady flow of weekly phone calls, a modest budget in the range of five hundred dollars a month is often plenty to keep the phone ringing.

Developer's advice

Point each ad at a page that matches its promise, not your homepage. If the ad says "emergency plumbing," the click should land on an emergency-plumbing page. Mismatched landing pages waste more budget than bad keywords ever will.
